During my three year sabbatical I spent my time in doors between journaling, reading and television. In spite of the achievements and accolades the best gift I could have given myself was this time of reflection. In fact I could not have orchestrated that gift; it had to be a gift from the Divine. It was in those days that I wrestled like Jacob. I needed to know a few things: “How to love myself?”, “How to love others?” and certainly “How to be in this world and not of it?” These were just a few of the thoughts that kept me pondering at nights, coming to grips with the choices I had made and the path my life was unfolding in.

In this weeks article I had to cover relational unfoldment. This had to be my most challenging one, because I had so much I want to write and say to everyone. It was challenging also because I had to stick to one story line. Now everyone know when it comes to relational unfoldment I could write a whole book with multiple story lines. In my reading last night from the book Happier than God by Neale Donald Walsch – he gave us 17 steps to Being what he coined as states that would make you Happier than God. I found them to be so profound and definitely useful as everyday practices. Whether you accept the ‘happier than God’ concept has no bearing on such practices. I have also provided a mini version on what each point means so that your own inner wisdom would provide you with insights. Here goes:

I wanted to follow up with some wonderful benefits that you can experience in your everyday life should you choose to release the emotional pain of sitting in unforgiveness. The process of forgiving is un-going, imagine if you were holding unto some emotions from your childhood it would certainly take a process to truly let that stuff go. It is not a quick fix process so be patient, gently and loving with yourself! Letting go of the grudges and bitterness can make way for compassion, kindness and peace.

When someone you care about hurts you, you can hold on to anger, resentment and thoughts of revenge — or embrace forgiveness and move forward. Nearly everyone has been hurt by the actions or words of another. Perhaps your mother criticized your parenting skills, your colleague sabotaged a project or your partner had an affair. These wounds can leave you with lasting feelings of anger, bitterness or even vengeance — but if you don’t practice forgiveness, you might be the one who pays most dearly. It’s like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

The key point for me was that the kid doesn’t speak because he is autistic but he can sing. Hmm. What is stopping me again from being a beneficial presence in the world? I love reading these stories as they remind me to keep going. I often think about the minds of people with autism. What are they hearing, seeing or feeling? How is the world through their filters?
