Love is perhaps the most universally recognized and most frequently misinterpreted of our spiritual powers or abilities. This is mainly because most people have a human interpretation of love rather than a divine interpretation. Most people equate love with an emotion. However, love is not an emotion; Love is a spiritual faculty or ability that is expressed through the feeling nature, just as emotions are. Many times, Love is surrounded by our emotions to the point where we have confused it with emotion. Therefore, there is the mistaken idea that love includes turbulence and stress. This is not true. Emotion can include turbulence and stress, but NOT love.

We have to allow the divine interpretation of love to unfold in our lives and as we do, we will find that it opens the door to experiences of God’s good, above and beyond anything we have ever thought was possible. Love is an idea in Divine Mind of universal unity or oneness. It is our ability to know oneness with ALL. It is our ability to desire that only good comes from ALL. It is the great harmonizer. It is the harmonizing, healing, unifying, attracting power in the universe. In nature, it works as gravity.

A Spiritual teacher once defines it like this: “Love is an inner quality that sees good everywhere and in everybody. It insists that all is good and by refusing to see anything but good it causes that quality finally to appear uppermost in itself and in all things.”

This is unlike how most people view love. Most people are like Charlie Brown’s young friend Linus. Linus made the mistake of confessing to his big sister Lucy that he wanted to be a doctor when he grew up (remember it was Lucy who prompted her little brother to once remark that big sisters are the crabgrass in the lawn of life). Lucy was astounded at her brother’s declaration. “You, a doctor! That’s a laugh!” You could never be a doctor! You know why? Because you don’t love humankind! Young Linus immediately responded, I do too love humankind! It’s people I can’t stand.

Linus expressed a shared definition with most humankind of love with his response but as we go deeper and deeper into Divine Love we find the limitation of such a definition. Practicing Divine Love will improve your relationships at home, work and play. We arrive at a knowing that Divine Love is impersonal and unconditional.

Join us this month as we practice the principle of LOVE. We will be going deeper into our understanding and seeking new revelations on how to express more and more LOVE in our life, world and affairs.

I invite you to ponder the definition we borrowed “Love is an inner quality that sees good everywhere and in everybody. It insists that all is good and by refusing to see anything but good it causes that quality finally to appear uppermost in itself and in all things.” Share with us your own revelations!
